A Summer and Fall Senior Photoshoot with fields, cliffs, graffiti and 1 amazing model

A to die for Summer and Fall Senior Session.

Beauty in an open field, adventure on a hillside cliff. Mystery down wooded paths and
graffiti splattered overpasses.

Many of us don’t know what it feels like to be a model. And most of the time, your Senior Portraits are the first opportunity you get to have that experience, but it won't turn in to your job. It’s an amazing thrill to know what it feels like to be a model for a day. Except when you’re Amanda. And your Senior Session is so rockin’ that it lands you a TRUE modeling gig right after.
Meet Amanda, a drop dead gorgeous Senior at St. Clair High School. We met in late Spring to plan for her Summer session. She wanted country fields, tree swings, beauty, carefree, and different! I could tell this girl liked back roads and some fun in her life. But we also wanted to keep it light and beautiful. We then decided we were going to do something in the Fall too to switch it up.
The first time we shot we stuck around the home studio. We cut up old books and scattered the pages in the wind. We stacked up books, hauled a chair outside, and I just watched as those open fields tried to swallow her up, but she stood out, beautifully and boldly.
Next us 3 girls (Amanda, Taylor my assistant, and myself) piled in to my car and drove way out on the back roads to our next secret spot, laughing about all the really bad fashion trends we had lived through when we were young- like full body DMC jump suits. Once we got to where we wanted to shoot we just walked in the woods, stopping wherever we felt like it. Looking off the edges of cliffs, and running from “dead bodies” we thought we saw. I mean, come on, we’re 3 girls, alone, in the woods. We’re ridiculous!

Fast forward: A couple of weeks after that I land a commercial job for a company, requesting I bring models in to wear their gear. In that email is also a request for Amanda. They saw her sneak peek on my page and asked if I could contact her for the shoot. And the rest is history. In that moment she became a true model. I was ecstatic for her.

In the Fall we got to do everything all over again! Exploring through the woods, climbing under over passes, and climbing trees. This girl was a blast. A shout out to Dad needs to happen too- who is clearly a secret amazing stylist because he’s responsible for her all her wardrobe you see here.

Take a look at all the fun we had together and try not to get too jealous you didn’t get to play with us too!

Pink Lipstick and Green Duct Tape- a lesson on inner beauty

Day 346
"Pink Lipstick"

(A flash back to my 365 project done in 2010/2011)

That's where this whole thing started- with pink lipstick. As I was getting ready I grabbed the tube full of waxy beautification and thought once I applied it, "Does this make me look cheap?" Which lead me to my next thought of what my mom always use to tell me, "It's all in how you present yourself."
As I grew up I understood this and really tried to live by it. I tried to present myself as what I really was. I didn't act like a stupid blonde girl, bc I wasn't stupid. I didn't drink to fit in, because maybe I didn't want to fit in there. Then as I got older that phrase started to slightly bother me, bc I started to look at it a different way.
If I tried to act classy, did that automatically make me a 'better' person? Or what if one day I decided to take everything completely unserious? Would that make people think I was immature and unfocused? Bc if that's what they thought- it wasn't true. So if they thought that, too bad for them, which, in my moms defense, was another thing she also lived by, "It doesn't matter what people think."
Some days I think, who cares how I present myself!? I am who I am inside. I know who I am! "It's all in how I present myself." What- am I like a package? A Christmas gift? Do you pick the one with the beautiful flowing ribbon, or do you settle for the one shoved in the plastic grocery bag? You have no idea what's inside!
Yet- other days, I do realize, my packaging does count. At quick glance people get a sense of me, who I am, and where I fit into in this life. I express myself through my clothes, my hair, the music I listen to, and the art I create.
I think there's a fine line between caring what people think of you and caring what people assume of you- and that's probably what my mom meant all along.
So, at the end of the day, if they assume I'm cheap bc of my pink lipstick, let them, bc they are of no use to me then. And if they think I'm weird for packaging myself up in green tape to prove a point, then even better, bc I would never want to be labeled as normal anyways!

Marysville High School Senior takes center stage-literally

AJBC-Photography-marysville-michigan-photographer.jpg

Picture this. A lifeguard on duty. A hot, blonde bombshell walking by. It’s almost like an old Bay Watch scene except for if you look closely there’s a family in the background drowning, being attacked by a shark because the lifeguard is too busy literally sweeping the young beauty off her feet and taking her away.

This is mom’s vision for her son’s Senior Session. Man do I love creative people.
Ok, so the idea got shot down by Dad and by her son, but still… it was epic, and hilarious, and told me they were hoping for something different. Just maybe not THAT different. haha

Meet Austin. He’s a Marysville High School Senior who’s involved in every possible sport imaginable along with being ridiculously smart. I had the opportunity to photograph his brother last year and work with his awesome, imaginative parents. I was excited to do it again this year.
When we got together we brainstormed and came out withsome key things we wanted to cover- the easy going guy on the beach, the nice natural shots, downtown fashion, a hectic sports set up including everything he does and then a fabulous, egotistical professional shot that literally puts him center stage.
The day was jam packed. We were changing clothes in the car, chasing sunsets, shooting outside in the dark, and running around a theatre trying to get all of our shots before they booted us out.
Check out how it all came together-

Peeking into the Boudoir with Luscious Lady LaLa LaRoux

It’s not every day you get to spy on a gorgeous girl getting ready alone in her bedroom. But, lucky for you, I did and now I’m sharing it with you.
Oh, if only we all looked this stunning while brushing our hair, right?
Not to mention, who else looks THIS STUNNING with little gloves on? It’s so unfair!
LaLa Roux is the perfect blend of modern day fashion and classic pin up beauty. To the tiny vintage shoes to her fun hair, she proves to you beauty has no boundaries. You do what you want. You dress in what makes you feel good. And you mix eras to make you stand out.
Take a look at everything we did during our stay in St. Clair at Memories Manor!
