I like girls who don’t exactly play by the rules, especially with fashion. Take a few risks, I promise you it will pay off. Even if you’re not ready to totally get WAY out of the box, even the smallest of details will make a huge difference!
Andrea didn’t know at the time of her shoot I would be using her as this fashionista example, I didn’t even know it, but looking back at her shoot now it’s clear she put together some killer looks and there’s some things you could learn from her and what she rocked during her Summer and Fall Senior Photoshoots (yes- she’s so fab she did 2 shoots!)
First off, this green “dress” she’s wearing. It’s an oversized sweater. She bought it larger than her normal top size so it would be the perfect slouchy, comfy sweater dress. So get creative with pieces and sizes! The boho headpiece- it’s just a necklace! As she was putting it on she looked like a little gypsy with it on her head, so we snagged some fun shots!
This bold pop of color in her next look was great and notice the accessories- a few bracelets and watch. It’s these tiny things that add extra texture and bling to your portraits, so don’t forget parts of your wardrobe that you think will be hidden- we’ll find a way and a pose to show them off!
Ok! I’ve waited long enough to talk about my FAV outfit she wore! These overalls and boots. The floral, bright crop top still keeps it feminine but those tall boots with the pants rolled up bring that edge back! I can’t get over this look! It’s unexpected and that’s what’s going to make your portraits stand out! Plus, she’s got moves- I mean look at her just rockin those baggy boyfriend cut overalls!
Ok, moving on from my current obsession of overalls- This dress is a great chic look and really mixes it up from the looks we’ve seen so far. It’s something a little more sophisticated, put together, and then paired with the heel, it takes it to a level we haven’t seen yet! Diversity is key to get the most out of your Senior Portraits!
Next we have this super casual look. When I say casual I don’t mean boring though, the ripped jeans and layered necklace keep it interesting! It’s meant to be a carefree, summer look paired with the easy going, sun kissed location.
And lastly. So dreamy. This white, soft dress with this floral crown. Whimsy will never get old to us at AJBC! The look turns very editorial / fashion when she gets in the water! And THIS is what you want for your Senior Experience! Something that doesn’t FEEL or look like a typical portrait. The days of turn, smile, click are gone, and so are the “rules” of fashion, because true fashion has no rules and no limits.
Guy Fall Grunge shoot by Port Huron Senior Photographer- ajbc photography
I’m so happy to FINALLY be putting up Nik’s blog! It's been an amazing secret we've been hiding since the Fall. He was so natural in front of the camera, Nik’s personality was fun, genuine, and contagious, so from the get go, it was a blast!
For our first look we wandered out into the woods. Nik’s first outfit was this comfy yet super stylish mustard yellow sweater and piercing green eyes matched perfectly with the golden hour sun and changing fall leaves! Not only did he nail this killer look... we also got so see his absolute adorable side with his adorable pup tagging along.
With Nik he pulled off so many looks.. from a stylish good lookin’ Port Huron High Senior to.. oh hey whats up, GQ Model. For Nik’s second look we hopped in the car, and headed to Downtown Port Huron for a more grunge look. He was rockin’ ripped jeans, black T, and a flannel... simple yet perfect for the look we were going for! Between alley ways, vape smoke, abandoned buildings at the newspaper storage room we got some rockin' shots! Edgy and not what you would expect from a typical Senior shoot, which I'm totally all about.
This is proof a guy shoot can be equally magazine worthy as a girl shoot.. Normally everyone is obsessed with the Senior girls but Nik's making guy Senior shoots look pretty kick ass right about now. Nik either needs to get into modeling or fashion styling because he nailed everything about it!
Port Huron, Michigan Couple Photographer
photographs young love from Texas
This year I had a goal- take less “portraits.” I know that sounds ridiculous but I was swooning over the images I was seeing on Pinterest- full of love, fun, emotion. And my photography runs on emotion.
If you give me a love story, a trauma, even a fairytale, what I can create for you exceeds what I work off of when I’m just running on colors of clothes.
With Kaley and Shawn I got the most adorable love story! They’ve been together since they were young (as if they’re old now... haha) and got married, moved, and Shawn enlisted in the military before they were even 20. I loved watching their love story unfold as the images popped up in my facebook feed over the years.
Kaley came to me for her Senior Portraits nearly 4 years ago and she was a beauty back then. Not much has changed.
Fast forward to now. They were home visiting from the sunny, warm state of Texas and booked a shoot in Michigan with AJBC Photography in the dead of Winter. Snow, deep snow, and below freezing temps, way below, just a touch above zero.
We grabbed a warm blanket, headed out to the forest and I just watched them enjoy each other, snuggling, dancing, smooching. I didn’t need to ask them to “act like they like each other” like we’ve had to do with so many couples in the past.
It felt so good to photograph people just being themselves. I’ve never been one for awkward stiff posing, but I’m losing that “posing” side of me even more, and I love it!!
